Mahlers Vierte, kammermusikalisch und zutiefst verstörend

CD Neuerscheinung Claves

MythenEnsembleOrchestra

Graziella Contratto, Leitung

Rachel Harnisch sings with very good articulation and her warm, well-balanced voice is perfect for the not-so-easy role that Mahler intended. And so this chamber music version of Mahler's Fourth is one of the best alongside that of Christiane Oelze and the 'Festival Ensemble Tensions', which uses the stone reduction. The songs of the pianist Artur Schnabel are also very interesting .... five songs selected for this production are sung by Rachel Harnisch in a warm, sonorous voice.

Graziella Contratto’s account of Mahler’s Fourth in the transcription of Klaus Simon is exceptionally moving, one of the most disturbing interpretations I have ever heard. Schnabel’s five Lieder are a welcome supplement for this outstanding CD. As the last movement of the symphony they are sung with a well articulating, warm and charismatic voice by Rachel Harnisch.
